“With the economic slowdown we expect more people to go on to the Internet to earn their living and to connect to their friends and relatives. The opportunity is vast on the Internet in view of its increasing influence at home, office or cybercafes and the digital lifestyle of today’s Internet users.
Those who have been retrenched may start looking for jobs or put up their credentials on social networking sites to seek alternative jobs. For those disgruntled employees laid off, siphoning out data from organizations as a mean to get back at their bosses or peddling them to make quick money may constitute a form of data security breach that enterprises need to take precaution in a downturn economy.
As such, we see 2009 as the year where Internet activities and threats will increase. As the potential is there, so will people with malicious intentions. Hence, security on the Internet will need to be heightened to a greater level at all gateways.
New and more sophisticated malicious software or malware will be introduced to search for their victims. More awareness on such threats will need to be conducted so that both home surfers and enterprise users will be more aware of the existence of such threats and select the best Internet security platform to protect themselves, their families and their business.
Internet users ought to be aware of next-generation smart protection solutions that can help the individual and organizations mitigate against such security threats. The solutions which are smarter than conventional approaches block threats before they even reach the individual and an organization’s network. We believe that such predictive intelligent solutions will be the buzzword for 2009 moving forward.”
